The St. Louis Cardinals won’t be winning the National League Central anytime soon.

The Chicago Cubs should find solace in knowing that their arch-rival and divisional foe, the St. Louis Cardinals, has been unable to field a stable and competitive roster.

Between Willson Contreras and the debacle that made him a full-time catcher from the Cubs to the Cardinals, and then being reassigned to DH duties, this is a masterclass in what not to do.

Especially if you want to win a division and build a well-rounded roster with financial flexibility.

Walk off

The Rangers slugger has been swinging a lot this postseason and that was no change in Game 1 of the World Series.

After leading Texas to the World Series by hitting five home runs in the final four games of the ALCS, Garcia extended his home run streak to five consecutive games with the biggest swing of the night in Game 1. The ALCS MVP stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 11th and blasted Miguel Castro’s 373-foot sinker to the opposite field for a walk-off home run and a 6–5 win for the Rangers.

Story

Garcia’s story is part of the appeal, a guy who played in Japan and fled Cuba, who was fired by the St. Louis Cardinals and, two years ago, was also cut from these Rangers’ 40-man roster. Now history is taking over.
