Adley Stan Ratschman (born February 6, 1998) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Oregon State Beavers. He was named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year in 2019. The Orioles selected Rutsman with the first overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, and he signed for $8.1 million, the highest MLB draft signing bonus at the time.

High school
Rutschman attended Sherwood High School in Sherwood, Oregon, and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 40th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. He did not sign with the Mariners and attended Oregon State University, where he played college baseball for the Beavers.

Rutschman was selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the first overall selection in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed for $8.1 million, the highest signing bonus at the time. He began his professional career with the Gulf Coast League Orioles, and after five games, was promoted to the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Promoted to A Delmarva Shorebirds. In more than 37 games between the three clubs, he recorded a drop of .254/.351/.423 with four home runs and 26 RBIs.
After the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season, Reutsman was assigned to Double-A Bowie Bayaux to begin the 2021 season. In June 2021, Reutsman was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game. 18 home runs in 80 games with Bowie and 55 RBI with a drop of .271/.392/.508. Later, on August 9, 2021, Reutschmann was promoted to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. He batted .312/.405/.490 with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs in 43 games with Norfolk.
Reutschmann competed for a spot on the Orioles’ 2022 Opening Day roster, but missed the start of the season due to a triceps strain. He began a rehabilitation work with Aberdeen on 26 April. On May 21, 2022, Reutschmann was promoted to the major leagues for the first time. During his first game, on the same day, he began playing catcher and batted sixth in the lineup. His first major league at-bat resulted in a strikeout, but two at-bats later, he got his first hit, resulting in a triple. Since Yorvit Torrelba on September 5, 2001, he was the first major league player to achieve this feat (one third for his first MLB hit) in more than two decades.
Scouting report
At the plate, Rutschman is an excellent hitter. On a 20–80 scouting scale, MLB Pipeline graded them with a 60-grade hit tool and 65 power. This allows him to develop into a perennial All-Star hitter with a batting average of over 280 and over 30 home runs each season.
The hitting tools alone give Reutsman a shot at being one of the best catchers in MLB before long. His work behind the plate could earn him AL MVP consideration in just a few years.
