Aaron Judge has made baseball history. The 30-year-old standout outfielder for the New York Yankees hit his 62nd home run of the season during Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers.
The Yankees slugger tied Maris’ previous AL record of 61 home runs in Toronto on September 28. Judge was then homeless in five matches and 17 batsmen attended until Tuesday’s big blast. She tied the mark of Babe Ruth’s 60 home runs against the Pirates on September 20 at Yankee Stadium.
Judge’s home run number 62 came from the leadoff position, in the first inning and on the third pitch of Game 2 of the doubleheader, kicking off the Yankees’ 161st game of the season. Judge became the Yankees’ everyday leadoff hitter in late September to give him more at-bats and more chances to make history.

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge destroyed his 62nd home run of the year in Texas on Tuesday night, making him baseball’s greatest single-season long-ball hitter — outside of MLB’s infamous steroid era.
Judge’s record-setting hit came in the first inning, from Rangers pitcher Jesus Tinoco, in a doubleheader’s nightcap at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
The judge drove an 88 mph slider across the wall of the left field, where the ball was caught by a fan who went into ready play with his gloves on.
The blast came off the judge’s bat at a speed of 100.2 mph and measured 391 feet.
The judge said that as he circled the bases, he relived this season’s journey and all the help he got along the way.
“I was thinking about my wife, thinking about my family, my teammates, the fans,” Judge told reporters after the game, a 3-2 Rangers win.
“All that was going on, running through my head, just the constant support I’ve got through this whole process.”
