On Gary Sanchez
A 97-mph sinker got off Clay Holmes with two strikes and two outs at the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday at Camden Yards.
The second wild pitch of Holmes’ innings allowed Calvin Gutierrez to score from third base and let the Orioles tie the game, which the Yankees lost in 10 innings.
Afterwards, manager Aaron Boone was unusually critical of Gary Sanchez – particularly regarding the second miscue.
Holmes’ first wild pitch was a tough one that went into the dirt. The second, more expensive, moved away from Sanchez.
“There were a couple that looked like it slipped for whatever reason,” Boone said. “I’m sure the elements had something to do with it, but those are the balls we have to try to keep in front of us. … That heater up and away, you might’ve got it.”
Pacemaker
With each beat of your heart, the muscle contracts, feeding blood to the rest of your body. The squeezing is triggered by an electrical impulse.
Sometimes, though, a glitch slows that impulse. This can cause dizziness, low energy, and shortness of breath.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone felt those symptoms. Doctors diagnosed him with a slow heart rate, and on Wednesday he addressed it by implanting a pacemaker. The team said the process went as expected, and Boone is expected to return in a few days.
While pacemakers are commonly used to check heart rate, what makes Boone’s case unusual is his age: He turned 48 on Tuesday. The typical pacemaker recipient is at least a decade old.
However, in 2009, Boone had open-heart surgery to replace a faulty valve, the result of a condition he was born with and had been monitoring since college.

Fans were calling back Boone’s head on April 18, when the Yankees were swept at home by the Tampa Bay Rays and lost their fifth straight game to fall 5-10. However, the club changed things at the time and hit the high-water mark of 28–19 on May 23 after a home three-game sweep of the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox.

Before Aaron Boone became the manager of the New York Yankees after the 2017 season, he was a longtime fielder in the game.
The youngest, Boone, debuted with the Cincinnati Reds in 1997, the son of former MLB catcher Bob Boone and brother of former Mariners second baseman Brett Boone.
Boone’s grandfather, Ray Boone, also played in the majors. The oldest Boone, who died in 2004 at the age of 81, played from 1948–60 and scored two All-Star games with the Detroit Tigers.
