Draft:

The Eagles entered the 2022 NFL Draft in search of a wide receiver, and on Thursday night, they found one — just not from the incoming rookie class.

After moving up to select Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis with the No. 13 overall pick, Philadelphia traded out of its second Round 1 selection, dealing the No. 18 pick to the Titans as part of a blockbuster package for A.J. Brown, as ESPN first reported.

Brown was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round (51st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.

On June 12, 2019, he signed a four-year deal worth $5,641,199 with a signing bonus of $2,122,690 and a 2019 cap hit of $1,025,670.

Trade Grades:

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Eagles are signing Brown to a four-year contract extension worth $100 million with $57 million guaranteed.

Brown has emerged as one of the better wideouts in football, catching 63 passes for 869 yards and five touchdowns in 2021.

By his own standards, it was something of a down season after exceeding 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two years, though he did miss four games to injury last season.

Contract:

The Eagles really, really needed more help at wide receiver. It seemed like they had interest in taking Jameson Williams but he went off the board with the Detroit Lions trading up to No. 12.

And that was hardly the first time they missed out on their guy this offseason. The Eagles previously had interest in acquiring the following players but successfully landed none of them: Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, Allen Robinson, Robert Woods.
