Laremy Alexander Tunsil (born August 2, 1994) is an American football offensive tackle for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL). A standout at Ole Miss, he was drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins before being traded to Houston in 2019. Since joining the Texans, Tunsil has solidified himself as one of the league’s premier tackles, earning five Pro Bowl selections.

Washington’s eventful offseason took another big step forward with a blockbuster trade on Monday.

The Commanders have acquired five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans in exchange for a package of draft picks, including a 2025 third- and seventh-round selection, as well as a 2026 second- and fourth-rounder. In return, Washington will also receive a 2025 fourth-round pick along with Tunsil, per Ian Rapoport.

This marks Washington’s second high-profile trade since March, having previously acquired wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Adding both a veteran playmaker and an elite pass protector underscores the team’s commitment to surrounding reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels with top-tier talent.

After an electrifying debut season that saw Daniels lead a stunning turnaround—culminating in a playoff run that ended just shy of Super Bowl LIX—Washington is clearly focused on maximizing its young quarterback’s potential from the outset.

The Washington Commanders took another bold step in fortifying their offensive line, striking a deal to acquire five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In exchange for Tunsil, Washington will send Houston a package of four draft picks: a third- and seventh-round selection in 2025, along with a second- and fourth-rounder in 2026. As part of the deal, the Commanders will also receive a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Texans.

This marks Washington’s second major trade of the offseason, following their acquisition of wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. from the San Francisco 49ers for a fifth-round pick on March 1.

Addressing the left tackle position had been a top priority for Washington this offseason. The team had been keeping an eye on Ronnie Stanley before he re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens over the weekend. Last season, rookie Brandon Coleman stepped up at left tackle, starting 15 regular-season games and all three of Washington’s postseason contests. However, the Commanders were determined to add a proven anchor to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels’ blind side.
