Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is said to be willing to let go of Kieran Tierney. This comes after they received a pinch-hit from his efforts during EFL Cup’s quarter-final against Crystal Palace on the 18th of December.
The Eagles were hosted by the Gunners last Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium where Tierney made his season’s debut. He played for almost 69 minutes before picking an injury requiring him to be subbed off. David Ornstein a journalist for Athletic has recently stated that Arsenal has plans to transfer the international Scotland player.Tierney signed for the gunners from celtic in 2019 and has made 124 appearances for the team.
In the last few years however his role on the team has grown lesser as he spent most of the last season on loan at Real Sociedad. This season he, unfortunately, due to an injury faced, has had a delayed start.
Tierney might leave Arsenal, as his contract is up for renewal during the summer of 2024. However, he is willing to satisfy other clubs’ interests by signing a foreign pre-contract in January before officially transferring in the summer. On the contrary, it is Arsenal’s hope that January will offer a good selling opportunity, and they can reap profits in doing so. However, Celtic seems to be interested in retaining the left-back alongside English and Spanish clubs.
Mikel Arteta delighted by the victory over Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup quarter-finals The Gunners played against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium during the EFL Cup quarter finals. Crystal Palace had a lovely start to the match, Jean-Philippe Mateta netting in the 4th minute opening the score. Arsenal leveled the score in the 54th minute courtesy of Gabriel Jesus, who netted a hat trick after scoring in the 73rd and 81st minutes.
Former Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah struck for Palace in the 85th minute but the hosts sustained their lead to secure advancement to the semi finals. Mikel Arteta had his own opinion after the match and as per Arsenal.com he was quoted saying:
“Really happy, we’re in the semi-final. The game started in a way that we certainly didn’t want to with a very simple goal and then our team had to respond and I think we did in a great way, showed a lot of character, so much desire to turn things around.
