Retrospectively, the story began when Carvalho was watching the broadcast of advertisements related to UFC when he took the decision to become an MMA fighter at the age of 12. Soon after, he began training at the gym owned by Rafael Silva, a pioneer of MMA in Portugal.[2][3][4][5] Carvalho worked in a factory and then as a janitor at a hospital while fighting in Portugal’s regional circuit before moving abroad.
