The International Olympic Committee has defended its decision to allow two boxers who failed gender eligibility tests to compete at Paris 2024.
Algeria’s Imane Khalif was disqualified hours before the gold medal bout at the women’s world championships in New Delhi last year after she failed to meet the International Boxing Association (IBA) eligibility criteria, which is similar to that for men. Prevents athletes with XY chromosomes from competing in women’s events. Taiwan’s double world champion Lin Yu-ting also lost her bronze medal at the same competition, as she also failed to meet the criteria.

Imane Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 championships before the gold medal match over gender eligibility issues. IBA President Umar Kremlev issued a statement to Russia’s TASS agency on why Khalif was disqualified.
