Grand slam
American tennis superstar Gahttps://www.wtatennis.com/players/328560/coco-gauffuff has become the youngest player in 19 years to win both the singles and doubles Grand Slam titles.
The 2023 US Open singles champion teamed up with Czech Katerina Siniakova to lift the 2024 French Open doubles title by defeating Italian pair Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the final on Sunday (June 9). ,
This is Gauff’s first Grand Slam title in doubles after losing in the finals of the 2022 French Open and 2021 US Open.
“It’s one of those things that when you least expect it, it happens,” said Gauff, who lost to eventual winner Iga Swiatek in the singles semifinals.
The 20-year-old and fifth seed Siniakova were playing together for the first time since Gauff’s all-time partner Jessica Pegula was forced to withdraw before the tournament due to injury.
When does play
Coco Gauff will finally realize her dream of playing in the Olympics by representing the United States at Paris 2024.
Saying “finally” to a tennis superstar who is still only 20 may seem suspicious, but for Gauff — who is her country’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony — it makes sense.
Three years ago, 17-year-old Gauff was forced to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics tennis tournament days before she was set to travel to Japan after testing positive for COVID-19.
Despite bags being packed and a plane ticket bought, Gauff was left powerless and “devastated” after Covid ruined her “big plans”.
And so he has been made to wait. However, she is now America’s top-ranked player. Now, she has a Grand Slam singles title in her kitty. Now, she’s going for a medal in Paris, and has three chances at making the podium.
Baby
Naomi Osaka’s recent comment that she wants her newborn daughter to look like Coco Gauff one day will make you cry.
During an interview with ESPN on Wednesday, the four-time Grand Slam singles champion discussed her admiration for Gauff, who qualified for the US Open semi-finals earlier this week.
“I’m always proud of everything she does,” Osaka said. “She seems like a very nice person. And everything that she’s doing and speaking about on so many different topics – it’s something that I would want my child to see her as a role model for.
She added, “Every match she plays, I cheer for her.”
Osaka, a former No. 1-ranked tennis player, has not participated in any tournament since September 2022. She welcomed a baby girl named Shai with her boyfriend, rapper Cordae, in July. She has said that she plans to return to tennis to compete at the 2024 Australian Open in January.
