Knockout

Don’t write off Dustin Poirier just yet. The 35-year-old may have lost two of his last three fights, but he got back into the win column with a massive second-round knockout win over Benoit St. Denis in the co-main event of UFC 299.

St. Denis established early in the fight that he would be on the offensive. He was taking Poirier down by the opening bell. Diamond responded with a few guillotine choke attempts but could not lock on any.

After punching St. Denis early in the second round, Poirier landed another punch. However, The Diamond did not need to make a choke attempt when he launched a perfect counter left hand that put his opponent on his skates.

Instead of going for the submission, he finished the job with punches and reminded everyone that he is still the top lightweight.

Poirier had written his work for him on paper. With losses to Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje in between a win over Michael Chandler, the veteran was beginning to fall out of the picture at the top of the lightweight division.
