Frank Michael Reich (RYKE; born December 4, 1961) is a former American football head coach and former quarterback. He served as the head coach for the National Football League (NFL)’s Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. He played college football at Maryland and was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Reich spent most of his career backing up Jim Kelly, although he gained recognition when he led the Bills to the NFL’s largest postseason comeback during the 1992–93 NFL playoffs.

Carolina’s flamboyant owner, a man who has shown a wild propensity for firing people under his employ, is why Reich’s firing was no surprise.
Just a few hours ago on Sunday night I had told you that the end was coming soon. This much was evident when Reich handed over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, only to take them back three games later, a sure sign that he received some kind of ultimatum. In the past few years, Reich has now been canceled in midseason and while this year’s toss is less embarrassing than being replaced by Jeff Saturday, Reich’s first year in Carolina lasted only 11 games, a loss for first-year Chiefs. Was the shortest tenure for a coach. In 45 years. Even Urban Meyer got 13 games with Jacksonville two years ago.
Buyout
According to Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Tepper will be paid an estimated $9 million per season over the next three seasons after Reich was relieved of his duties as head coach on Monday. Reach initially signed a four-year contract that will run until 2026. Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as interim head coach. Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will become the team’s play caller, with senior assistant Jim Caldwell serving as his special advisor. Tabor wasted no time in making staff changes and fired quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley.
Carolina made the decision to fire Reich after just 11 games following Sunday’s 17-10 Week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans (4-7). Reich was tasked with fixing Carolina’s offense and developing quarterback Bryce Young, whom the organization had acquired with four draft picks and star wideout D.J. Had separated with. Moore, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, failed to get the ball his way.
Coaching career
Reich became a coach and his work as offensive coordinator of the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles, who won the Super Bowl, landed him the Colts head coaching job. Reich is owed $36 million by Carolina through 2026 and will make approximately $25,000 per day with the Panthers for the next three years.
Reich signed a four-year contract to coach the Panthers on January 26, 2023. Although details of the agreement were not revealed, his deal signaled the end of the Indianapolis Colts’ obligation to pay him $36 million through 2026.
However, after a 1–10 start to the 2023 season, the Panthers put an end to Reich’s tenure at Carolina.
