Hit
The NFL has suspended Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson four games in the wake of his second ejection, which occurred in Sunday’s win over the Green Bay Packers.
Jackson has been a hot topic early this season as he was marked three times and ejected twice for illegal hits that were high on opposing receivers.
NFL vice president of football operations John Runyan announced the suspension on Monday, which comes a day after Jackson was ejected for a hit on Packers rookie tight end Luke Musgrave.
“On the play in question, you delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of a defenseless receiver while you had the time and space to avoid such contact,” a statement from Runyon said. “You could have contacted your opponent within the rules, yet you chose not to do so.”
Suspended
Kareem Jackson of the Denver Broncos has been suspended for four games by the NFL after he was convicted of multiple unnecessary roughness violations, the latest of which occurred during the Broncos’ Week 7 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Salary
Jackson’s base salary this year is $2.515 million, so his fine and suspension have reduced his salary by more than 25% this season.
Fines
Jackson was fined a total of $45,961 for unnecessary roughness in each of the first three games of the season. NFL vice president of football operations John Runyan issued the suspension Monday for violations of the league’s unnecessary roughness rules.
