Cade McNamara (born May 28, 2000) is an American football quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes. McNamara was the starting quarterback when the 2021 Michigan Wolverines team won the 2021 Big Ten Championship, and appeared in the College Football Playoff, losing 34–11 to No. 3 Georgia in the 2021 Orange Bowl.

What happened to
In a season in which it has struggled to generate offense, Iowa lost the piece it least could have lost on Saturday evening.
Hawkeyes quarterback Cade McNamara is out of Iowa’s game against Michigan State after suffering an apparent foot injury. The Reno native had to be helped off the Kinnick Stadium field.
With 8:11 to play in the first quarter McNamara dropped back to pass from his own two-yard line and the Hawkeyes went ahead 3–0. He was able to get back to the line of scrimmage before his leg twisted and he fell to the field.
The senior was replaced by second-year student Deacon Hill.
McNamara fouled out after completing three of his five passes for 46 yards.
This offseason, McNamara transferred from Michigan to Iowa. With the Wolverines, McNamara threw for 3,181 yards in three years and helped the program win the Big Ten Championship in 2021. However, he was replaced by J.J. Took it. McCarthy was slated to be the starter in 2022 and was limited to three games due to a knee injury.
Injury update
Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara suffered a non-contact injury to his left foot against Michigan State and did not return in the 26–16 victory for the Hawkeyes. McNamara appeared to have injured his foot in the first quarter scrimmage and trainers helped him off the field. Broadcast cameras later showed McNamara struggling to put weight on his foot on the sideline.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz spoke about McNamara’s injury in the post-game press conference, but could not provide any major updates.
“We’ll know more about Cade’s status early next week,” Ferentz said.
The first-year transfer from Michigan was 3 of 5 passing for 46 yards at the time of the injury and was replaced by backup quarterback Deacon Hill. McNamara has struggled with injuries throughout preseason camp, so the latest setback will be even more disappointing.
McNamara joins Iowa after three seasons with the Wolverines, and served as the starter en route to a Big Ten championship and a College Football Playoff berth in 2021. However, he is J.J. Lost in favor of. McCarthy was in the early stages of his 2022 campaign, prompting him to transfer late last year. In the first four games of his Iowa career this season, McNamara completed 43 of 85 passes for 459 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions.
