Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes rarely gives up a touchdown drive with a panicked reaction, but it happened during his team’s home opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.
On a pass to Kadarius Toney in the game’s third quarter, Mahomes’ ball bounced off Toney’s hands and into the hands of rookie Lions safety Brian Branch, who ran it back for a touchdown.
It was Mahomes’ first pick-six in the season opener, and it helped the Lions tie the game at 14 each.
If you look closely at the broadcast replay, you can see that Mahomes delivered a very relevant flick of the lips in frustration after about 20-seconds.
You know this trick, it’s the one where you make boat engine noise when you’re frustrated with something not going right.

Yesterday when I was with Pat and her family and her agents, Chris and Lee, we just talked about how amazing this relationship has been and how we’ve really come full circle in three short years. It started in 2017. This organization, Clark Hunt and Mark Andy, we believed and had a vision that Pat was going to be the next superstar in this league and really do things that the league hadn’t seen before.

No one will claim that Goff is better than Patrick Mahomes, but Goff is now 2-0 in games against Mahomes. In 2018, when he was with the Rams, Goff defeated Mahomes and the Chiefs 54–51 in their only head-to-head meeting.
Goff had better numbers than two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes. Despite throwing incompletions on the first three passes of the game, Goff completed 22 of 35 for 253 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions and a passer rating of 94.1. Mahomes was 21 of 39 for 226 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 77.5.
