Jack Hughes (born May 14, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL). A product of the US National Development Team, Hughes was drafted first overall by the Devils in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, a draft in which he was widely regarded as the top prospect.

Performance
Hughes finished with the primary assist on Jesper Bratt’s insurance goal in the third period, and Hughes was clearly the top player in the win. He missed out on his first career hat trick when his empty net shot went wide. Still, it was the best game of the year for Hughes. He is a player who has been criticized by some for not doing enough despite averaging over a point per game. This game was a good reminder of what he was capable of.
