Released
The Houston Texans are adding a new running back to the mix as they claim Eno Benjamin, after the Arizona Cardinals decided to release him on Monday, the team announced. Benjamin started three games for the Cardinals this season in relief of James Conner, who was battling an injury.
The seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Benjamin played just one offensive snap during Sunday’s 27-17 win over the Rams. He had four snaps on special teams including his 10-yard kickoff return. This comes two weeks after Benjamin completed his third consecutive start with Conner out of the lineup. The start included Benjamin’s 12-carry, 92-yard, one-touchdown performance during the team’s 42–34 victory over the Saints in Week 7.
Why was released
“The decision was made because of Benjamin’s vocal displeasure with a declining role in the offense,” a source told Compare.Bet … Benjamin played only one offensive snap on Sunday, and the decreased playing time clearly let them down.” ,
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported that Benjamin had a confrontation with an assistant coach after the game, but Benjamin’s agent denied this.
Somers said, “But it is clear that the Cardinals cut Benjamin for reasons that had nothing to do with his performance on the field.”
It appears as though despair has gotten the best of Benjamin, and things have boiled over too much for Arizona’s liking.
Cut
The Cardinals made a surprise move on Monday, taking backup running back Eno Benjamin.
Multiple sources have told Compare.Bet that the decision was made due to Benjamin’s vocal displeasure with his diminishing role in the crime.
Benjamin averaged 4.3 yards per carry in 10 games with the Cardinals this season and filled in well when starter James Conner was injured. However, Conner returned in week 9 and has been a workhorse each of the past two weeks.
A source said Benjamin played only one offensive snap on Sunday and the dwindling playing time frustrated him.
Benjamin started three games this season, highlighted by his 12-carry, 97-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.
Benjamin averaged half a yard more per carry than Conner this season and also had a better receiving season. The Cardinals nearly cut Benjamin when he was a rookie, but coach Kliff Kingsbury spoke regularly about his growth and maturity this season.
