Joel Hans Embiid (born 16 March 1994) is a Cameroonian professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), who also holds French and American citizenship. After one year of college basketball with the Kansas Jayhawks, he was drafted third overall by the 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. Multiple foot and knee injuries delayed his debut for two seasons until 2016–17, when he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team despite playing only 31 games. Embiid is a five-time NBA All-Star, a four-time member of the All-NBA Team, and a three-time member of the All-Defensive Team. He has nicknamed himself “The Process” in response to 76ers fans shunning him for “relying on the process” during the Sam Hinkie era. Embiid led the NBA in scoring during the 2021–22 season, becoming the first center and seven-footer since Shaquille O’Neal (2000), and the first since Moses Malone (1982) to average more than 30 points per game. Vala was also the first center while also the first foreign player to lead the NBA in scoring.

“The shots I took, I usually make them,” said Embiid, who shot 19-for-28 from the ground, 1-for-5 at three, and 20-for-24 from the foul line. “And some nights, I’m going to miss them. “(She said) ‘I’m going to be Joel,'” Maxi said. “(I said) ‘You be Joel.’ And that’s what he did.”

“I told me,” Embiid said, “because sometimes I’m capable of being Shaq whenever I want, whenever I want to be Dirk, or Kobe (Bryant), or MJ (Michael Jordan), or Can be anyone. Guards really, which means shooting dribbles, or pull-ups, or ball-handling, aggressively a combination of everything.

While Embiid and Anne have been dating since 2018, the couple is yet to tie the knot. Rumors of their involvement began in October 2018, when Embiid did a cover story with GQ.
