Accident:
The Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier has died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident during qualifying on Saturday, MotoGP has announced. The 19-year-old Swiss was hit by another bike after falling from his own at Mugello in Italy.
“Following a serious incident in the Moto3 qualifying two session at the Gran Premio d’Italia, it is with great sadness that we report the passing of Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier,” MotoGP said on its official website.
It was reported that Dupasquier was being treated by medics on the circuit for more than half an hour after the incident before being flown to hospital. His team, Prustel GP, announced they would not be taking part in Sunday’s race. Dupasquier was in his second season in MotoGP’s lightweight class.
The MotoGP grid staged a one-minute silence before Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix, which was won by the world championship leader, Fabio Quartararo. After his win, the French rider stopped at the scene of Dupasquier’s accident before pointing to the sky.

Dupasquier, in his second season in Moto3, fell and was struck by at least one bike, before sliding along the track, during qualifying.
Doctors rushed to the scene and after attending to him for 40 minutes on the circuit had him airlifted to hospital.
He underwent chest surgery overnight “for a vascular lesion” and had suffered “severe brain damage”, a hospital spokesman told AFP earlier Sunday.
Motorcycling’s governing body the FIM, the team’s IRTA umbrella association, and the sport’s commercial rights holder DORNA issued a joint statement on the tragic news.

According to the journalist Mat Oxley, the Florence Hospital reported that the situation of the rider is complex and that the medical team is currently working on priorities regarding the health condition of the rider.

He is undergoing CT scans & magnetic resonance imaging throughout his body to verify which is the most critical area to intervene most urgently. It is possible he will be taken to the operating theatre for surgery’.
