British welterweight Conor Benn has given up his boxing license after a positive dope test led to a much-publicized fight with compatriot Chris Eubanks Jr. this month.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBOFC) said in a statement on Wednesday that it had upheld “misconduct allegations” against Benn after he was called for a hearing on October 21.
“On the morning of the hearing, Mr. Ben voluntarily relinquished his license with the BBBOFC,” it said.
“In accordance with its rules and regulations, the Board determined the charges after a hearing in which Mr. Ben was legally represented.
“The allegations of misconduct against Mr. Ben were upheld.”
Between Ben, 26, and super-middleweight Eubanks, set at a catchweight of £157, it was called off on 6 October, two days before it was held at London’s 02 Arena, when the BBBOFC said it would cannot proceed.
In a randomized trial conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) in August, Ben returned a finding for “trace amounts of a fertility drug.”
A statement posted on Ben’s social media account on Wednesday said the boxer has decided not to renew his license.
