Entering the race as an $18 outsider, red hot favorite Nature Stripe looked home and had 150 meters to go, but was swallowed by Giga Kick, Private Eye and Mazu.
Nature Stripe was on her way to her second straight Everest victory, but it was not to be as the giga kick pulled off absurd upsets.
The Nature Stripe sat on Eduardo’s hip as he rounded the turn and as they reached 400 meters from home, she moved on and many believed he would have written everything.
But as the horses descended straight down, the mighty gelding failed to overcome and was overtaken in the final stage.
Private Eye came home from Maju in second place, crossing the fourth position of the Nature Strip.
UFC
The ‘giga kick’ may be new to UFC fans, but not to those who have followed his kickboxing and pre-UFC mixed martial arts career. He brought out the lever kick quite a few times during his time at Glory and made a name for himself as one of the best kickers he had seen in promotions.
Prior to Giga Chikadze’s debut in GLORY, he was already a two-time world champion, European champion and winner of several A-class tournaments in kickboxing. His first performance against Canadian Ken Tran also featured a long list of powerful kicks, including ax-kicks and Grealing Somersault. This earned him a technical knockout win as well as recognition by Glory’s official website as “one of the best kickers in the entire organization”.
