Retirement
The sun has officially set on Blake Bortles’ football career.
The former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback announced his retirement Tuesday on the Sorry My Take podcast when asked about potentially signing with a team this season.
“I haven’t touched a football since January,” said Bortles. “I’m officially retired.”
Bortles had not played an official NFL snap since the 2019 season when he was Jared Goff’s backup with the Rams. The 30-year-old has since bounced around several practice squads, including stops in Denver, Los Angeles, Green Bay and New Orleans.
Despite signing a reserve/future contract with New Orleans last January, the Saints parted ways with Bortles after the club added Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton this off-season. Bortles dressed up for the Dolphins vs Saints Week 16 loss last season, but didn’t see action as Ian Book’s emergency backup.
Married
The Altamonte Springs, Florida, native is unmarried, but some would have assumed that he married his ex-girlfriend Lindsay Duke a while back.
