Walter Ray Allen Jr. (born July 20, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. He played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in September 2018. Allen is widely regarded as one of the greatest three-point shooters of all time, and held the record for most three-pointers in a career until 2021, when he was surpassed by Stephen Curry.

He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dalzell, South Carolina in 1993 after leading the varsity basketball team (Wildcats) to the state championship. He was the Big East Player of the Year in 1996.

Ray Allen has taken a job as director of boys’ and girls’ basketball at Gulliver Prep in Miami and will also serve as the school’s boys’ varsity basketball coach.

Gulliver on Friday announced his appointment to a Hall of Fame player, two-time NBA champion and 10-time All-Star. Allen has previously been associated with Gulliver as an assistant coach for a middle school program and is a parent at the school.

Gulliver has about 2,200 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.

Allen was part of the teams that won the NBA Championship in 2008 in Boston and in 2013 in Miami. He is still the NBA’s career leader in 3-pointers scored with 2,973 – 141 more than Stephen Curry of Golden State.

Allen was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
