Family
Following the death of Eddie Butler, 65, a broadcasting legend has received heartfelt tributes.
The former Wales captain, who became a much-loved, iconic voice for the BBC and graced the pages of the Guardian and Observer after retiring from the field, died in his sleep while on a charity trek on the Inca Trail in Peru.
Brian Moore, an ex-England hooker and Butler’s BBC colleague, bid Butler farewell on social media.
“I am devastated by this news,” Moore wrote on Twitter.
“I’m sorry I never told you how much I admired you as a broadcaster and as a man,” Ed said.

Death
Butler died on Thursday, according to the Welsh Rugby Union and the BBC, for which he worked.
Butler died in his sleep at a base camp on the Inca Trail in Peru, according to Prostate Cymru, the health charity where he served as an ambassador.
He was on a fundraising expedition.
Butler was a No. 8 for Wales from 1980 to 1984, and he toured New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions in 1983.Butler spent time after rugby as a teacher, then with a property development company before finding a new niche in broadcasting.
Butler progressed from stints with national newspapers to excel for the BBC in rugby commentary, as well as adding colour to major sporting events, most notably the Olympics.
Illness
After his death was announced, tributes poured in for former Wales captain and BBC rugby commentator Eddie Butler.
The rugby legend died at the age of 65.
He died peacefully in his sleep in Peru, according to reports.
At the time, he was raising funds for Prostate Cymru.
Between 1980 and 1984, he won 16 caps for Wales and was called up for the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 1986.
After leaving the pitch, he went on to become a respected commentator for the BBC and also wrote a column for The Observer.
Arcade Fire
On Tuesday (May 3), Win Butler appeared on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show, where he discussed his work with Arcade Fire and the band’s upcoming full-length WE.
He also addressed Will Butler’s departure from the band, which the younger Butler announced in March.
Arcade Fire released “The Lightning I, II” in mid-March, and Will Butler announced his departure from the band two days later.
Win Butler told Lowe that his brother has three young children and that Arcade Fire had taken over his life early on.
“I believe he is interested in things other than music,” Win Butler said.
“However, I believe you only have one chance.”
