Bruce Sherman, a New York businessman who served as the Marlins’ principal owner, appointed Jeter as their chief executive officer. Jeter had long expressed a desire to own an MLB team during his playing career.
But despite the Marlins appearing in the postseason in 2020, the marriage has ended four and a half years later.
Jeter, 47, made the announcement on Monday that he was resigning as CEO and giving up his ownership interest in the Marlins.
