Corey “Coco” Gauff (born March 13, 2004) is an American professional tennis player. Hours before Serena Williams walked into Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday night for her second-round match, Coco Gauff warmed up the hardcourt with a win.
The experience wasn’t lost on 18-year-old Gough, who credits Williams for showing that it was possible to be a star in professional tennis as a black woman. She said it was “an honor for her to open up.”
The victory was not bad either.
Gough of Romania and Elena-Gabriela Russe quickly took control of Gough after splitting the first two games of the first set of Wednesday’s second-round match.
