Burke started his career at Nottingham Forest, but his pace, dribbling ability and attacking mindset caught the eye of Leipzig, who signed him to a five-year deal in 2016. His 20 outings from the Bundesliga in 2016/17 were as a substitute, however, and Burke moved on at the end of the campaign, returning to the Midlands of England with West Brom.
The right-footed winger may not have managed to settle in a spot in the middle years, but the powers that be in Bremen leave no doubt about his quality.

When I heard that Oliver Burke had moved from my old club Nottingham Forest to Germany, my first thought was that he might have moved to Bayern Munich. He’s a special talent, and everyone I’ve talked to in the game has been watching him.
That’s why I was surprised to learn that instead of being transferred to the Allianz Arena, he was actually on his way to RB Leipzig – a club founded in 2009 by Energy Drink that has just gained promotion to the Bundesliga.
In fact I was not only surprised, but I was also very worried. This is a transfer that stinks of an agent who makes a lot of money out of it.
I can relate especially well to Burke’s story because I was in a very similar position to him when I was in the forest at about the same age. Burke is 19, while I was 18 when I moved to Newcastle from City Ground in 2002.
Just as Burke has only made 13 starts for Forrest, I only played from the beginning of the season until December before I left. I didn’t even finish the entire season. In fact, people were trying to sign me when I was on the youth team in Forest and didn’t play a single game.
