Salary
Arsenal have offered Mikel Arteta a lucrative £8.3million deal annually to keep him at the club.
But this only makes him the fifth highest-paid manager in the Premier League.
SunSport exclusively revealed in February that Arsenal were preparing to pay Arteta the same salary as Arsene Wenger during his final year at Emirates.
He has now done so – but his new annual salary of £8.3m is still less than half of old friend Pep Guardiola’s pay packet.
Manchester City bosses rake in £19m a year – but are paying the club in the form of a Premier League title.
The Spaniard is on course to secure City in a fourth league in five seasons – although Liverpool are hot on their heels.
Wife
He is married to Argentine-Spanish actress, television host and model Lorena Bernal. The couple has three children: Gabriel (born 2009), Daniel (born 2012) and Oliver (born 2015).
Arteta was born on 26 March 1982 in San Sebastian, in the mountainous Basque Country of northern Spain. He is multilingual, and is fluent in Spanish, Basque, Catalan, and English. He also speaks some French, Italian and Portuguese.
When did join Arsenal as manager
Arteta, appointed in 2019, propelled Arsenal to fourth place with four games remaining as they bid for a Champions League place for the first time since 2017.
“We want to take the club to the next level and really compete with the top teams,” he said on signing his new deal.
“To do that, we have to play in the Champions League. We need to be able to develop the team, improve our players, improve all departments, build even more relationships with our fans, improve the atmosphere in the Emirates Must be able to recruit the top, top talent and best people for this club to take this project to that level.”
