Injury
An MRI exam of Mekhi Becton’s right knee revealed a more serious injury than initially anticipated, a source told ESPN on Monday night, raising fears that the New York Jets’ right knee could be sidelined indefinitely. Is.
The source said the 2020 first-round draft pick injured the same knee, which required season-ending surgery in September, but described it as a “different” injury. Becton will have additional tests Tuesday to determine the diagnosis, but the Jets’ anxiety level was heightened after receiving the MRI results. A source said the assumption is that 23-year-old Becton will be losing significant time.
A source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Becton suffered an injury to his patella (knee cap).
Becton hurt his knee in the opening O-line drill on Monday morning. He lurched around but kept practicing. A few minutes later, in the second play of the 11-on-11 period, Becton fell backwards after being hit by defensive end John Franklin-Myers. Becton’s right leg seemed to be stuck in the grass, which may have caused his knee to bend awkwardly.
College
Becton played in the 2017 season as a freshman. During his freshman year, Becton played 13 games and started in tackle position in 11 for the Cardinals. During the first 4 games of the season, Becton was the highest-rated freshman in the country by Pro Football Focus, and during 7 he was the best pass-blocker in the ACC, allowing only 6 pressures in 312 snaps.
Becton was named the starting tackle for the 2018 season and started every game, bringing his total number of games to 23 by the end of the season. Becton was again named the starting tackle for the 2019 season. They received first team All-ACC honors after the conclusion of the regular season. Becton decided to skip his senior season and pull out of Louisville’s bowl game, and declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Weight loss
Former Jets offensive lineman Damian Woody has a message for New York’s second-year left tackle Mekhi Becton.
“He needs to get into the best shape of his life,” Woody told Brian Costello and Jake Brown on the New York Post’s ‘Gangs All Here’ podcast this week.
Becton had been sidelined from the first week, when he suffered a knee injury in only his 48th offensive snap of the entire season. Since then, the estimated time of Becton’s return has changed with each passing week. Finally, just days earlier, Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Becton’s injury would “keep him out for the rest of the regular season, except by miracle.”
Woody, who spent the final three seasons of his 12-year career with the Jets, believes Becton will benefit from slimming down this season. He said there is a chance that Becton could develop into the best left tackle in the NFL, but he needs to work to get to that point. It is his natural ability that will take him this far.
“No one will dispute the immense talent he has,” Woody said. “We saw glimpses of his rookie year. Many of his plays made highlights. But, as we’ve said time and again, your best ability is your availability.”
Dad
Mekhi Becton has insane and almost superhuman athleticism for someone her size. It is easy to imagine that his father was athletic himself considering his imposing size and the fact that his son is such a rare athlete. Maybe the Jets will demand a package deal.
