Religion

Moyes was one of a trio of Christians active in the club, the others being Alan Comfort and Graham Daniels. He was described by McDonough as “the Holy Trinity of Cambridge”. McDonough writes: “The three of them sat in the changing room with a small black book, discussing their beliefs about when they should have been nominated for an exile scrap. I cut out a vague newspaper story. He used to stick it on. The notice board in front of them was saying, ‘Look those spoilers. That’s what you’ll end up with. Vikars are playing with the choir.’ But he just turned the other cheek.”

Rangers fan

The honest David Moyes has heaped praise on Rangers in the wake of their 3-1 friendly win that overtook their West Ham side.

Both teams huffed and whispered during the first half at Ibrox but it was Geovan Bronkhorst’s change at half time that triggered a goal blitz to sink the English Premier League side. Tom Lawrence was the star of the show with one goal and two assists, first for Ryan Kent, before tipping off fellow newcomer Rabbi Matondo.

And Moyes expects major improvements from his hammers ahead of the new campaign, but was quick to praise the pace of thought from Europa League finalists who left his side. He added: “It’s pre-season and we’re trying to get the players in the right positions, and we didn’t really look like that tonight. Look, it was always going to be a tough game, no doubt about it , but I’m disappointed with a lot of the elements of the game and the things we’ve done.
