Swing
1. Weigh Your Mark Feet
On the force plates, Tony’s right leg will be glowing as he “weights” his trail leg and lands himself. This makes the ground reaction force energy for maximum power.
2. Do a Small Arm Swing
Tony is unique in how he can generate great power from a small arm swing, meaning his arms and body are always in sync. He can crank up to 200 mph whenever he wants but chooses a more controlled approach.
3. Straighten your leg for more turns
Tony’s right leg is extended and straightened on his backswing. This allows her hips to twist and tilt more, increasing the potential energy of her swing.
4. Keep Your Left Shoulder Down
Note how Tony has swung his left shoulder down in transition. Initially, it helps him to shallow the club, but, upon impact, his shoulder will start to move around, making his swing a bit stagnant. If your left shoulder is too flat behind or in transition, you will never be able to achieve the proper angle of attack.
Ankle
AUGUSTA, Ga. – As unusual as Tony Finau’s short backswing may be, his finishing position matches that of most PGA Tour players. Fully committed, on the left, he says. “For me, there is no hanging.”
No, no one is behind in anyone’s swing. Unless, of course, he broke his ankle in a traumatic accident 24 hours ago.
We are of course talking about Finau’s 2018 Masters, where a temporary injury put his Augusta National debut into serious question. Speaking with GOLF.com last month, it was much more than just a week’s change. This affected his swing habits and abilities for an entire season on the PGA Tour.
Home
Two weeks ago, Tony Finau moved his family from his native Utah to TPC Scottsdale by road, about a six-minute drive door-to-door. He’ll sleep in his bed on a one-stroke lead in the final round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open after tying the bottom of his career with a blistering bogey-free 9-under 62 on the PGA Tour.
“It’s about as good as you can play here,” said Jon Rahm, who played Finau’s threesome at TPC Scottsdale.
Finau made a quick start with the first and third birdies and then turned 31 by drilling a 21-foot at No. 8 and a 9-foot at No. 8. His putter remained hot on the back when he rolled. A 27-foot birdie putt at 12 and then par-5 tied for the lead with an eagle in 13th.
“It was the first time he hit a driver in a fairway this week,” said Finau’s caddy, Greg Bodine. “It made all the difference in the world.”
Children
Tony Finau is blessed with five children, who are called Gerais Finau, Tony Finau Jr., Lilleen Aiga Finau, and Sienna-Ve Finau. Jraice Finau is a young.
