Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky (born March 17, 1997) is an American competitive swimmer. She has won six Olympic individual gold medals and 14 World Championships individual gold medals, the most in history for a female swimmer. Ledecky is the world record holder in the women’s 800-, and 1500-meter freestyle (long course), as well as the former world record holder in the women’s 400-meter freestyle (long course). She holds the fastest times ever in the women’s 500-, 1000- and 1650-yard freestyle events.

World record 800
Katie Ledecky extended her record of medals at the World Swimming Championships to 22 with her latest 800m freestyle win on Friday.
Ledecky took 8 minutes, 8.04 seconds to win the competition for the eighth time in a row at the World or Olympic Games.
“I think back to London,” Ledecky said of his first win at the 2012 Olympics. “I aimed for it not to be a one-hit wonder and here we are 10 years later, so I’m really proud of it and still look forward to the future.”
World record 400
Australian rival Ariane Titmus was absent from the competition, opting to skip the Budapest-hosted event. Titmus set a new 400m freestyle world record in May, clocking a faster 3:56.40 seconds to oust Ledecky from the throne.
The 400m win in Budapest is Ledecky’s 16th career world championship gold medal and his 12th individual world title, the second highest after Michael Phelps’ 15 individual golds.
Ledecky will compete in two more individual events, the 800m and 1,500m free swim.

Ledecky made the Olympic team by finishing first in the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:19.78, more than two seconds ahead of second-place finisher Kate Ziegler. In Omaha, Ledecky placed third in the 400-meter freestyle (4:05.00) and ninth in the 200-meter freestyle (1:58.66).
