An ESPY Award (abbreviated for Excellence in Sports Performance Annual Award) is an honor currently presented by the American broadcast television network ABC, and formerly ESPN (as of the 2017 ESPY Awards later still broadcasts them as Ripley’s). ), to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual event. The first ESPY was awarded in 1993. Due to the rescheduling of the ceremony prior to the 2002 iteration, the awards presented in 2002 were for achievement and performance during the more than seventeen previous months. With a similar style to the Grammys (for music), Emmys (for television), Academy Awards (for film), and Tonys (for theatre), ESPY is hosted by a contemporary figure; The genre, however, is lighter, more relaxed, and self-referential than many other award shows, which usually include comedic sketches.

Ohtani also earned the Commissioner’s Historical Achievement Award for becoming the first MLB player in history to become an All-Star pitcher and hitter.

Since 2004, players, broadcasters, sports officials, and sportspersons, collectively specialize; Or even ESPN personalities vote. Thereafter, the award winners are selected exclusively by the ESPY Selection Nomination Committee from amongst the selected candidates through online fan balloting.

Best team

The Los Angeles Lakers Squad was named the Best Team of 2009 at the annual ESPY Awards.

Led by their team captain Kobe Bryant, the Lakers won a Western Conference best 65–17 regular season record. He fought hard with the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic to win his fifteenth franchise championship.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson was also named Coach/Manager of the Year at ESPY.

The Lakers came back from humiliating defeats in previous years by their rivals, the Boston Celtics, to win a championship this year. They wanted to establish their role as the best team in the NBA, and now they’ve done it.

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning this prestigious award.
