The 2009 season was an ugly one for Jamarcus Russell. We all watched the same game, so we all watched the same thing. Looks like Russell didn’t “do it” last season. He did what should have been a match-winning score in the first match against SD. He led the Raiders to a game-winning score the following week against Casey and also hit Chase Shillens in Denver to win the game. The only thing is that last year the bright spots were few and far between.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Christian Dior, Russell has “itch” to play football again. Now at about 308 pounds, Russell is “down” from the 320 pounds he weighed in the fall and is working on a conditioning program that will get him back in football shape.
It appears that Russell is serious about climbing back up the NFL ranks. The 27-year-old is aligning himself with renowned professionals who will not only help him lose weight, but also fix some of the issues he had with the Oakland Raiders.

Jamarcus Russell was tipped as one of the most promising quarterbacks when he played at Louisiana State University. In 2006, Russell was the starting quarterback at LSU, defeating Matt Flynn and highly renowned freshman Ryan Perriloux. He had a 2006 regular season, leading the Tigers to a 10’2 record and a BCS Sugar Bowl berth.
Russell threw for 3,129 yards, 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions and was second in the SEC with 2,923 yards. Russell also won the SEC Offensive Player of the Week award three times during the regular season. The following year, he was the first overall pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 NFL Draft.
After being drafted by Oakland, Russell immediately stirred up conflict by engaging in a contract holdout until the second week of the 2007 season. He eventually signed a six-year contract worth up to $68 million, with $31.5 million guaranteed. However, Russell’s tenure with the Raiders would be defined by inconsistent play and questions over his work ethic, which led to his release in 2010.
