New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to forward Vincent Trochek on a seven-year contract.
Trochek, 29, skated in 81 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2021-22, recording 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points and a career-high plus-21 rating. Trochek finished third in the Hurricanes with a career-high 185 hits, fourth in points and fifth in goals. He was one of four players in the NHL last season with 50 or more points and 180 or more hits (Trochek, Tom Wilson, Brady Tkachuk, Andrei Svechnikov). Among NHL skaters with 1,200 or more faceoffs, he finished 13th in the league with a 54.6 faceoff percentage. Trochek was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up playing minor ice hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets until he was 13, before moving with his family to Detroit, Michigan. He played with the Pittsburgh Hornets in the 2006 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
He then played for the Detroit Little Caesars, during which he was a two-time national champion and two-time league lead scorer playing in the MWEHL. In his major junior career, Trochek joined the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) after being the 24th overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Draft.
