Magsayo made his pro debut in 2013. WBO International Featherweight Champion, Magsayo won the WBC-ABC featherweight title in 2019 against Panya Uthok. In January, he defeated Gary Russell Jr. for the WBC featherweight title. The Magsayo victory ended Russell’s seven-fight winning streak.

A seven-time national champion, Vargas made his debut in 2010. WBC Youth Silver Super-Bantamweight Champion, Vargas won the WBC Super-Bantamweight title in 2017 against Gavin McDonnell. He defended the title five times. Vargas is now moving up the weight classes to fight for featherweight gold.

Net Worth

According to various reports, Ray has a net worth of around $1.5 million in 2020. His current purse and salary are yet to be disclosed. According to an ESPN report, Ray’s guaranteed purse from his title defense fight against Franklin Manzanilla was $75,000.

Record

Mark Magsayo lost his WBC featherweight title to Ray Vargas by split decision at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday (Manila time).

Magsayo scored a knockdown in the ninth round, decked out Vargas with a right hand, but he could not finish the job as the unbeaten Mexican showed brilliant resolve.

Two judges scored 115–112, 115–112 for Vargas, while the other scored a 114–113 victory over Magsayo.

Vargas (36-0, 22KO) became the two-division champion. He was a former champion in super bantamweight before rising to 126 pounds.

The 27-year-old Magsayo, who suffered his first defeat since starting his professional career with a 24–0 record with 16 knockouts, found it difficult to face the taller Vargas.

Vargas used an effective jab that interrupted Magsayo’s time.

Magsayo’s defeat left the Philippines without a defending boxing champion.

Highlights

Magsayo scored a knockdown in the ninth round, shot with a clean right hand that Vargas threw a punch of his own, which he did a few times. But Magsayo, who usually jabs well, couldn’t or didn’t use that punch as much as he usually likes, and there were rounds where Vargas clearly had his way, and from third Build up some good momentum especially in the eighth round.

Magsayo seems to have made a decent shot of late too, but may have skipped the 11th and 12th rounds to seal Vargas’ victory.

“It’s my second world title, it’s going back to Mexico,” Vargas said after the fight. He acknowledged that Magsayo had “got it” with the knockdown, but said, “I was in control of the whole fight (besides), he got me there and I lost a little bit of control.”

Wife

Ray Vargas seems to be single at the moment. He is not talking about staying with anyone at the moment.

However, she must have had some relationships in the past which she is very secretive about.
