Gary Peyton II is an interesting prospect who relocated to Oregon State after a few years at Salt Lake Community College. He is very athletic and can jump outside the gym. He is strong and will use it to finish after contact or to post short defenders. He shows ability to shoot, but will need to work more on his consistency. He hustles and steals which makes for handy baskets and he is also a very good rebounder for his size and position. Payton is aggressively limited with all his dribbling and agility. His pull-up shot is slow and he can’t break away from his defender enough to clear it. He plays more like an SG and will have to work and practice a lot if he wants to play a PG in the NBA. This is the reason why his height becomes a problem. Lastly, Peyton II is 23 years old and still quite a raw player. Overall Peyton II will need to make defense his calling card in the NBA if he wants to stay in the league for long.

Dunk

Gary Peyton II got the starting call for the Warriors in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Sunday — and that may already be the highlight play of the series.

Starting the first playoff game of his career, a 6-foot-3 guard posterized Desmond Bain, who rose up for a monster dunk on the Grizzlies’ 6-foot-5 guard.

With 7:28 left in the first, Peyton set up a screen for Stephen Curry just beyond the 3-point line on the left wing and rolled into the hoop when his defender double-teamed Curry. Peyton then threw a dribble and jumped for the dunk as Bain came to try and help stop Peyton, but that help proved costly.
After being stung, Peyton patted his head while looking at Bane, letting Bane know that he had thrown her down.

Peyton made 16 starts for the Warriors in the regular season, but did not start in any of the five games against the Nuggets, his first career playoff action. In his first six minutes of action, Peyton picked up two fouls and went on the bench for the remainder of the quarter.

The basketball career of 30-year-old Gary Peyton II has been full of rejection. He has been cut from teams four times in six years and spent five years working hard in the NBA’s G League. And that was just cut again.Peyton knew there was an opening in the Golden State Warriors’ video coordination department, so he contacted assistant coach Jama Mahallela.

League sources told Yahoo Sports that free agent guard Gary Peyton II has struck a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers on a three-year, $28 million deal that includes a player option and additional incentives.

Peyton II, part of the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 NBA Championship team, had a career season at Bay in 2021–22. He averaged 7.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 17.6 minutes per game. He broke his elbow in the 2022 postseason, but made a comeback during the NBA Finals.

The deal cements Peyton II as a solid NBA contributor after bouncing around on training camp rosters, two-way contracts, 10-day deals and the G League.
