Benjamin David Simmons (born 20 July 1996) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the LSU Tigers, after which he was unanimously named First Team All-American and USBWA National Freshman of the Year. Simmons was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. After sitting out a year due to a right leg injury, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2018 and was selected to the NBA All-Star Game three times. Following the 2020-21 season as a result of the 76ers’ holdout, Simmons is the player with the most penalties in NBA history.

Ben Simmons: Nike contract| Salary per game| Contract end

Brooklyn Nets point guard Ben Simmons has signed a three-year contract extension on his footwear deal with Nike after discussing a potential switching brands with New Balance.

NBA insider Mark Stein told Friday (via hoopsheep) that Simmons has entered “advanced talks” with New Balance. His agent, Rich Paul, confirmed the decision to stay with Nike.

Simmons originally signed before the 2016 NBA draft after a bidding war with Nike, which also included Adidas.

USA Today’s Jeff Zilgit reported that his first deal was a five-year contract with $20 million in guaranteed money and bonuses based on individual awards.

The LSU product, which was first drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers six years ago, hit at least one of those incentives by winning the 2017-18 Rookie of the Year Award (he missed his first season due to injury).

Salary per game

Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons has filed a complaint with the NBA to try to recover nearly $20 million in pay, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne. The move was widely expected, and the complaint will now go through the league’s arbitration process.

Simmons requested a trade from Philadelphia this past season, and he made it clear that he did not intend to play for the team again until his wish was fulfilled. The Sixers began withholding pay from Simmons when he did not show up for the start of training camp. He eventually returned to Philadelphia and rejoined the Sixers, and once he said he wasn’t “mentally” ready to play, the team stopped fining him for a period of time. However, when Simmons declined to meet with team doctors or share updates about his mental health progress, the fines were reintroduced in short order. Clearly, Simmons and the team did not look at the issue face-to-face.

Contract end

Simmons signed a five-year, $170.0 million extension with the 76ers in 2019. He is under contract through the 2024-25 season and has no option in his contract.
