LIV Golf (/lɪv/) is a professional golf tour financed by the Public Investment Fund, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia. The name LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral 54, the score if birdies were made on each hole on a par-72 course and the number of holes played in LIV events. The first LIV Golf Invitational Series event began on 9 June 2022 at the Centurion Club near London, England.

Protests
The controversial LIV Golf Invitational began Thursday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, about 20 miles west of Portland.
It is the first incident of a Saudi Arabia-backed golf league in the US, and nearly a dozen family members of the 9/11 victims flew to Portland to protest the tour.
“To speak out against American golfers – who are getting into bed with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which our own FBI said facilitated the murders of our loved ones – is shameful, it is shameful and never let it happen. Should have,” said. Brett Eagleson, whose father was killed in the 9/11 attacks.

The LIV Golf Tour made its debut in London a few weeks ago, and golf fans were looking forward to the first tournament. Now, the Saudi-backed start-up Tour will continue to build momentum as it plays in Portland, Oregon.
LIV Golf Portland starts Thursday, and the three-day, 54-hole tournament is about to get a little more exciting than it was before. With well-known major winners like Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed making the jump from the PGA Tour to LIV golf, the region is looking a little stronger than London.
Three former major winners include world number 17 Dustin Johnson and veteran Phil Mickelson, who last year became the oldest player in golf history to win a Major. Those names alone will attract attention from golf fanatics and casual fans alike.
