Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane is set to leave Liverpool. His 120 goals have made him one of the sport’s superstars – and his incredible record of philanthropy and charity has drawn attention.
But his road to professional football was not easy. He grew up in Bambali, a village in Senegal, 250 miles from the capital, Dakar. At the age of 15, Mane ran away from home to pursue his dream of playing football.
The first major signing of the Jurgen Klopp era, Mane would go on to win a lot – the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup (though not exclusively all in the same season.)
His star rose even further in February when he scored the winning penalty in the African Cup of Nations final, propelling Senegal to victory.
And this is where he has had his biggest impact, helping to improve lives in his country through health care, education, and more.

Sadio Mane explained that the decision to join Bayern Munich was not a difficult one – as much as he loves Liverpool.
The Senegalese star underwent his medical with the German giants on Tuesday, and was unveiled as a Bayern player on Wednesday – ending his six-year stay at Anfield.

One of football’s good men, Mane became a firm favorite at Anfield during his stellar spell in which he won every trophy, including the Premier League and Champions League titles.
And so Reds fans will now have to get used to watching the crowd favorite rip off elsewhere — and even play against them.
“When my agent first told me about Bayern’s interest, I was immediately excited,” he told German Bild.
“I immediately saw myself there. For me it was the right club at the right time.

Number
Mane has only worn four different shirt numbers during his club career so far. During his first season as a professional for French side Metz he was handed 33 before being promoted to 21 the following season.
Mane initially wore the number 40 after moving to the Red Bull Salzburg partway during the 2012/13 season. He was number 10 for the rest of his time in Austria, as was the case with his two-season spell at Southampton.
Liverpool would eventually reassign Mane his preferred number, but not before he was forced to wear 19 for two campaigns.
