Punk’s run as AEW World Champion has hit the road early.
Just five days after becoming champion, 43-year-old Cm announced on Friday night’s episode of Rampage that he suffered an injury that would require surgery. Punk is not skipping the AEW World Championship, but will be crowned an interim champion in his absence.
CM described the injury as a broken “wheel”. He promised to return bigger, faster, stronger and hungry than ever.
With tears in his eyes, Punk addressed the crowd on the rampage. He told fans that he had both good and bad news for him.
“The bad news is I’m injured and I need surgery. A couple things have broken. The biggest is my heart because I love nothing more than to perform for all of you, and I’m in one hell of a run.” Wanted to leave. This is bad news,” CM said.
“The good news is, I can still do all that. I told you I was going to keep going until the wheels fell off. Well, the wheels are still there, they haven’t fallen. It’s just that.” that one of them breaks. But I’m back from worse. I’ve felt better than I did today, but I’m here to tell you that I’ve felt much worse too. This road I have a bump. It’s painful. It hurts like hell. I wanna wrestle for you.”
Aew rampage
The AEW World Champion entered the ring to address AEW fans as he made his way into the ring. It was clear that he was not 100 percent as he walked gingerly.
Punk recently won the AEW World Championship in a match against hangman Adam Page and won his first professional wrestling championship in nine years.
However, this fairy-tale victory looks as though it could be an obstacle on the way to a monumental title as CM Punk revealed he will be momentarily away due to injury.
He used to describe his injury as a ‘broken wheel’ and continued to describe how broken his heart was about the circumstances leading to the need for surgery on his leg.
However, it was not clear in the promo whether he would be relinquishing the title.
Recently via Twitter, AEW revealed that there will be a battle royal for Dynamite next week that will determine who will face Jon Moxley to determine the interim AEW World Champion.
