Billionaire

The only other NBA star to become a billionaire is Michael Jordan, who did not achieve that status until 2014, more than a decade after retiring as a player.

According to Spottrack, James, who has just completed a two-year deal with the Lakers worth $85 million, has earned $387 million in salary during his playing career. Forbes reports that he has earned an additional $900 million in advertising since entering the league in 2003.

James has launched many lucrative business ventures in his 19 year sports career. In 2016, he signed a lifetime deal with Nike, which is rumored to be worth over $1 billion in itself, although this figure was never confirmed by James. As Forbes reports, he owns a $300 million stake in Springhill Production Company.

Additionally, James has partnerships with chains such as Blaze Pizza, where he is an investor and owns a 10% stake, which Forbes estimates is worth $30 million. He is an investor in Fenway Sports Group and saw a cash profit from the sale of Beats to Apple in 2014 because he owned a small part of the company.

Forbes also estimates that he has a net worth of $80 million, which includes a roughly $37 million 13,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills.

LeBron James is a billionaire, the first time an active NBA player has achieved that milestone by one count.

The Los Angeles Lakers star has “maximized his business,” raking in more than $1.2 billion in pretax income, Forbes said. His NBA salary from three different teams has grown to $383 million during the past 19 years, and James has earned “over $900 million in income from endorsements and other business ventures,” the magazine said.

In addition to lucrative endorsement deals with Nike (NKE).

Business ventures

LeBron James’ position among basketball’s elite is unmatched by those of today’s players, and the same argument could be made among all-time ranks. What James has done on the court during his 18-year career in the NBA seems unreal at times, and the fact that he is still considered the best basketball player in the world is deeply remarkable in his career.

But what James has been able to do off the court is almost as impressive. Throughout his career, he has consistently been one of the most marketable athletes in all sports. While marketing an athlete is certainly nothing new, the way James handles himself as not only an endorser, but a partner is different.
