Who is
Born in Kumla, rebro County, Ericsson got his first taste of motorsport when he was nine years old in karts. “I got a call from Fredrik Ekblom, whom I used to drive in the British Formula 3000 and Indy Lights. He now runs a kart circuit and he told me about a nine-year-old who had driven down the street and nearly hit a lap. The record was broken,” recalled Fortec Motorsport chief Richard Dutton. [3] Ekblom managed to persuade Ericsson’s father Tomas to buy his son a kart, and the young Swede remained in karting for the next four years, “I never really thought of racing as a career. My family didn’t have the money for it. I had to race formula cars, so we never thought about it,” Ericsson recalled.
In 2006 Ericsson’s career was supported by former champion car driver and 1999 Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack. “I saw Marcus at a race in Gothenburg” said Brack, “he didn’t win the race because his engine blew up with two laps to go but he was clearly the best. He didn’t get caught in any fight. tha when passing – he would just wait for the right opportunity, then he sprang up and he was away. He has so much patience but when he goes for it, it totally measures up. He made me see Alain Prost Reminds me” Brack said.

Ericsson cited his qualifying form as the main reason why he was widely beaten during the season by rising star and rookie teammate Charles Leclerc.
However, Ericsson stated that his fifth season in F1 was “definitely my strongest”, with 17th place as his best championship finish.
“It’s the pace of the race that has been very strong this year,” Ericsson said. “I’ve had some really strong races.
“The qualifying problem has been, I’m far behind Charles and it has made it difficult to keep up with their points tally.
“On tire management I am one of the strongest people in Formula 1 at the moment.
