It was easy in Durant’s mind to choose Brooklyn as the next stop in his career. He said he had a brief chat with close friends Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan around 4:15 a.m., when free agency opened, and all three players were quickly headed to the nets.

“I thought it was time for a change. I wanted to play for a new team,” Durant said at the team’s 2019 Media Day. “Simply put, I just did. I didn’t really think about what I was leaving behind or what we had achieved. I had already put it on the shelf.

“When it came time to make decisions about my future, I thought only of myself.”

In addition to gearing up for a new opportunity in Brooklyn, Durant spoke to The Wall Street Journal’s J.J.

“Steph Curry, obviously, was drafted there. Andre Iguodala won the first final, the first championship. Klay Thompson drafted there. Drummond Green, drafted there,” Durant said. “And the rest of the people rehabilitated their careers there. So me? S-, how are you going to rehabilitate me? What are you going to teach me? How can you change anything in my basketball life? I’m already an MVP.” I got scoring titles.

“As time went on, I started to realize that I was totally different from the rest. It’s not a bad thing. Just my circumstances and how I got into the league. And on top of that, the media always used to see this KD and the Warriors So it’s like no one can fully accept me there.”
