Disqualified
John Daly is known for his unique and easy going approach towards sports. For decades, he has been a huge attraction for golf fans.
Although it wasn’t really what you’d expect from a grown man. Over the weekend, Daly, 56, was disqualified from the regional convention.
The reason he was dropped from the first major of the men’s senior circuit at TPC Sugarloaf is because he forgot to sign his scorecard. It’s the fault of a schoolboy right there from Big Hit American. He was only 36 holes in the tournament. Daly does not have social media and did not speak to the press about the complete debacle. He wasn’t the only player to be DQ’d over the weekend. At the same tournament, 51-year-old German Alex Sejka was also given his marching orders after using a non-conforming green-reading book. It was also a bitter pill for Sejka, as he was the defending champion of the tournament. In 2019, Cejka was also disqualified from Honda Classic for doing something similar.

John Daly and pedestrian are not usually words that appear in the same sentence. Yet it’s safe to say that the golf folk hero has had a walking season on the PGA Tour Champions to date.
In six starts before this week’s regional tradition, the first major on the senior circuit calendar, the 56-year-old was no better than 27th. When he posted an opening round 68 at Greystone Golf.
As it turns out, though, Daly won’t have a chance to do well on a solid opening 36 holes. After Friday’s round, he was disqualified for failing to sign his scorecard.
The PGA Tour Champions didn’t provide much detail on what exactly happened. Starting his Friday round 10th tee, Daly was under four on the day through 15 holes, but made a double bogey on the par-3 seventh. He then made another double bogey on his final hole, par-4 ninth. The shot tracker on the PGA Tour Champions website reads that he four-putted his final hole.
It is the first time since 102 career starts that Daly has been disqualified from a PGA Tour Champions event. In 541 career PGA Tour starts, he was DQed five times, the last at the 2003 Valero Texas Open.
A two-time major winner, including his memorable win at the 1991 PGA Championship, Daly is listed for next week’s PGA Field in Southern Hills.
Why was disqualified
His biggest obstacle in Tulsa was some of the water hazards that he could drive under ropes and briefly into the gallery.
And he signed his scorecard. Daly was disqualified from the PGA Tour Champions Region Tradition last week after failing to do so after the second round.
