Belal Muhammad put to rest any doubts that he is one of the best welterweights in the world on Saturday night as he proved too difficult to solve a riddle for Vicente Luke in the main event of UFC Fight Night.
Luke was a minor favorite heading into the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Muhammad was completely in control of the fight except in the third round in which he was repeatedly stumbled by Luke. Muhammad stunned his opponent with constant side-by-side movements along the fence line, making it difficult for Luke to regain rhythm or punch straight. Muhammad used a whipping body kick to score the point from away and once Luke was caught with striking exchanges.
Muhammad went into takedowns in each of the first four rounds, including a third round in which he was meaningfully shoved by Luke. But Muhammad did well to panic as he instead continued to advance, throwing strikes and eventually tempting Luke to leave the opening for a takedown. Muhammad was awarded a unanimous decision with two judges scoring it 49–46 and a scorecard scoring 48–47.
Following his win, Muhammad spoke with UFC commentator Daniel Cormier, where he called out Colby Covington. He criticized “Chaos” for fighting battles against Jorge Masvidal and Tyrone Woodley, both of whom entered Covington’s feud over consecutive defeats, and challenging lightweights such as Dustin Poirier. Muhammad also took a moment to acknowledge his fellow Palestinians, saying that their fight in the Octagon was nothing compared to the fight he fought every day.

Mike Jackson’s wild UFC ride continued in the welterweight opener, as he secured his first UFC victory via disqualification over Dublin newcomer Dean Barry.
Jackson got off to a strong start, allowing Barry to miss and pay off with quick counters. But after a couple low kicks from Barry, another stern warning from referee Chris Tognoni, the Irishman began to find his groove, knocking Jackson down with two minutes remaining. Jackson rose but then caught an eyeball, once again stopping the bout, this time for good, with Tognoni disqualifying Barry at the 3:52 mark.
Jackson, who has had all three of his pro MMA fights in the UFC, went 1-1-1. Barry falls 4-2.
