Inter Milan made a stunning comeback on Friday to top Serie A ahead of city rivals AC Milan, thanks to a 4-2 win over Empoli that saw the Nerazuri bounce back from two goals in the first half.
An own goal, a brace by Lautaro Martinez and a stoppage-time tap-in by Alexis Sanchez ensured that Simone Inzaghi’s side claimed all three points in front of a crowd of 70,000 at the San Siro.

A rollercoaster in the first half at the San Siro saw Empoli run into a two-goal lead before the hosts made a dramatic comeback as the half-time whistle drew near.
To say that the initial stages did not go to plan would be an understatement. After only five minutes, Inter found themselves behind a goal when indebted Andrea Pinamonti led the visitors against their native club. The goal stemmed from a run from the right by Sizmon Zurkowski and a fine finish by the Italian.
With 28 minutes on the clock, Inter suffered another body blow when Riccardo Fiamozzi’s ball at the top was controlled by Kristjan Aslani and slammed home through Samir Handanovic’s legs.
In the 40th minute, Simone Romagnoli brought a powerful low cross from Federico DeMarco into his own net just beyond the goalkeeper to give life to the hosts. Martinez scored on either side of half-time to complete the return for Inter.

Inter pulled out 3-2 winners in extra time when the pair met in the Coppa Italia back in January and the hosts advanced into the game after winning five of their last six matches. Empoli have lost three of their last five league games but are always in danger of advancing.
