Joseph Daniel Voto (born September 10, 1983) is a Canadian-American professional baseball first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2007. He is the first Canadian MLB player since Larry Walker to score 300 home runs and 1,000 career runs while batting (RBI). Voto is also the second Canadian to get 2,000 hits.

Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Tuesday that Voto was placed on the COVID-19 injured list.
The duration of Voto’s expected absence is not yet clear, as the Reds have yet to announce whether he himself has tested positive for the virus or is on the injured list for other reasons. The team will hope that their time off the lineup will allow them to step back and rediscover their old form, as they have put up a pathetic .122/.278/.135 through 22 games this season. Colin Moran starts Tuesday against the Brewers at first base in the absence of a vote and should appear to have an expanded role until Voto returns.

The Reds could be without first baseman Joey Votto for a month after he fractured his left thumb during Wednesday’s 1-0 10-innings win over the White Sox. The club placed Woto on the injured list on Friday and reinstated outfielder Shogo Akiyama from the injured list.
Votto was injured while batting at the bottom of the fourth inning when he collided with the pitch of White Sox starter Dallas Keuchel.
“I’m surprised it took so long to be honest with you. I think I’ve had 10,000 professional plate appearances in that range, so… yeah. It’s part of the game,” said Votto, who in his 1,800 Was playing the sixth match of his career on Wednesday.

Manager David Bell said Voto had not tested positive for COVID. Voto was in Tuesday’s original starting lineup, but showed signs. He had earlier tested positive for the virus in March 2021.
Although he is not injured, Voto is one of several raids placed on IL since the start of the season. Former Rookie of the Year Jonathan India is currently in his second stint at IL due to a right hamstring strain. Catcher Tyler Stephenson is returning to the lineup on Tuesday after he was placed on a 7-day concussion list after a home plate collision with the Padres’ Luke Voight.
