“Sarah took her own life,” shared a statement posted by Schultz’s family on a website dedicated to her life on April 15. “Balancing the demands of athletics, academics and everyday life overwhelmed them in a single, desperate moment.” Like you, we are shocked and saddened to hold on tightly to what Sarah was.

She served her hometown of Oak Park, Calif., as a member of the National Charity League and was a devoted member of the Associated Student Body at Oak Park High for four years. She was senior class secretary in 2019 and helped plan the senior prom.
In her time at the University of Wisconsin, she earned an internship in the Wisconsin State Legislature and volunteered as a polling worker for the 2020 presidential election.
Schultz’s thirst for adventure took him on trips to Europe, Africa, and Alaska.
She was a stellar athlete. Schultz’s powerhouse senior season in cross country for Oak Park High included a Coastal Canyon League title, a CIF-Southern Division 3 championship, and a runner-up finish in the CIF-State Division III final.

Sarah Schultz, a cross-country track star competing in her junior year, has died by suicide at the age of 21. Schultz’s family recently shared a statement on their website confirming that he passed away on April 13.
Balancing the demands of athletics, academics and everyday life overwhelmed her in a single, desperate moment, the statement said. “Like you, we are stunned, and saddened to hold on tightly to what Sara was in.”
“Above everything else, Sarah was a force for good in the world,” her statement continued. “His deep compassion was evident in his devotion to his sisters Abhay and Ella, his parents loving him every day, and extra care in the moments he shared with his grandparents and cousins.”
After her passing, Schultz’s family expanded on the impact the college student had on those closest to her.
