Ben Simmons hasn’t played for the Brooklyn Nets since his controversial trade to the New York-based franchise in January.
Fans have been hoping that the guard will take to the court in the post-season ahead of the new season.
Sports analysts have suggested that the 25-year-old could be key to the Nets’ success in the 2022 playoffs. Although at this point, the Nets would welcome any assistance they can get to put up a good performance against the Boston Celtics.
Game 3:
Simmons has also proven to be an elite creator who could allow Durant and Irving to work off the ball. This, above all, requires chemistry between the three.
Having Simmons in this series could turn around the Nets’ 2-0 deficit. However, it could also go terribly wrong. Simmons’ defense and playmaking may not be enough to outweigh the downside of such an abrupt season debut without any prior chemistry.
Game 4:
He has yet to play this season and has had to build up his fitness but began four-on-four workouts this Monday, and Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that he is targeting Game 4 against the Boston Celtics on Monday to return to court.
The Nets lost both games in Boston to open the series but have the chance to restore parity with two games at Barclays Center and Simmons, who has been working to strengthen his back and legs as he recuperates, could be set to feature.
He recently received an epidural to help with the back pain and has been rehabbing ever since. Prior to the series beginning against Boston, Nets head coach Steve Nash said it was up to the player to declare when he would be available – so the fact he has now reportedly targeted a game for his return is big news.
